Shepherd

I was reading my devotional this morning and the Bible verse that coincided with it was Psalm 23. Reading the psalm reminded me of when my Dad helped me to memorize it. We lived in our house on McLaren and he used the house layout to help me remember key points to learn it as a whole.

(1) The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want. (This is easy to remember.)

(2) He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. (Front lawn and kitchen.)

(3) He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name sake. (My bedroom and hallway.)

(4) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff they comfort me. (Continue down the hallway with the lights off and Dad holding my hand. Then he lifted a belt in the closet because that is a form of discipline.)

(5) You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemy; You anoint my head with oil; my cups runs over. (Back to the kitchen.)

(6) Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. (The house as a whole.)

My Dad was good at shepherding us. He was a great example of love and guidance that I so appreciate, and I will never forget Psalm 23 because he took the time to teach me in a creative way.
